Campus:Second Life is a useful site for those interested in taking advantage of Linden Labs offer to grant “free” land to educators interested in using SL for educational purposes. That said, the folks at Second Life announced on January 30, 2007 that “we have no more available plots for educators participating in the Spring 2007 Semester. If you are looking for temporary land for your class this semester, you might try posting on the SLED list to see if any other educators in Second Life might be able to help you!”
My take on these free grants is that folks who are able to build their own learning platforms VERY quickly will dominate them. Given that the grants are intended to be for one semester, it would take a noob like me more time than that to build something useful, let alone design meaningful lessons etc. I think that these freebies will go the way of the dodo bird in the next year or so.
So, if you’re looking for basic FAQ’s, this is a good place to start. A reference site, for the new to SL folks like me.
