Second Life Education

Having discussed Linden Labs and the basics of SL earlier, the next stop is at the SL Education website. The SL education site includes general information about the way’s Linden Labs supports education in SL by providing a “flexible environment for educators interested in distance learning, computer supported cooperative work, simulation, new media studies, and corporate training.” In many ways this site is a portal to other SL resouces that I’ll review in due course such as a SL Mail List, SL Wiki and information on how to go about securing working space on SL for educational purposes.

Regarding purchasing land, if that’s your thing, Linden notes that, “We offer a discount to verified real world educators and academic institutions (e.g., universities/schools) or 501(c)3 non-profit organizations that will be using the regions to support their organization’s official work. For these organizations, small islands are priced at US$980 for 65,536 square meters (about 16 acres), and monthly land fees for maintenance are US$150.” as of March 2007.

In all, not a very usefull page to return to after visiting for a few times.
